The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers are two of the best teams in the world of baseball right now. These two going face-to-face will always be a war and a cinema for all the MLB fans. After the disaster of game 5 of the World Series in 2024, the Yankees will be looking to win it this time. The Dodgers having assembled their super team will be looking to win the World Series again. But there was a comment by the Yankees owner, Hal Steinbrenner, that caught the fans’ eye.
The New York Yankees are looked at as perhaps the biggest club in the majors, but nowadays, they hardly seem to justify that perception, having been repeatedly unable to confirm their superiority over the years in the postseason play. While this year was yet another instance in which they played in the Fall Classic, failing to get out of the ring, the Los Angeles Dodgers proved successful, lifting the championship once in each of the last two seasons. End. But Ken Rosenthal doesn’t quite agree with that. He has a different take on why the Dodgers have had this much success.
Just days ago, Hal Steinbrenner made a comment about this situation and Rosenthal does not agree with it. Steinbrenner said, “It’s difficult for most of us owners to be able to do the kind of things they are doing. We’ll see if it pays off. They still have to have a relatively injury-free season for it to work out for them.”

Hal Steinbrenner is very clear that he and some other owners can’t do what the Dodgers are doing with their recruiting and strategy. It is very difficult for them. But he also says that for the Dodgers’ planning to work, they will have to have minimum injuries. Ken Rosenthal agreed with all of it except the first sentences.
While doing the show on the Foul Territory YouTube channel, the journalist pointed out saying, “Last two sentences, no problem. First sentence, it’s difficult for most of us owners to be able to do what they are doing, big problem. Here’s the Yankees franchise value according to Forbes as of last year, $7.55 billion. That was about 2 billion more than the Dodgers franchise value. He said repeatedly, we should be able to build a team, a championship team under $300 million. He is not wrong about that but when Hal Steinbrenner, groups himself, with I don’t know, Cleveland Guardians, the Tampa Bay Rays, and all these other low-revenue teams, most of us owners, No sorry. You don’t get that pass.”
According to Ken Rosenthal, the monetary value of the Dodgers does not exceed the New York Yankees but the teams can perform as equals. The statement that Hal Steinbrenner and other owners share identical situations with small-market teams cannot stand. Given their available resources, the New York Yankees ought to challenge teams like the Dodgers during any off-season period. The comment from Steinbrenner towards Rosenthal did not match well with his understanding. The Yankees have maintained higher salaries than the Dodgers throughout the last five years but they have failed to secure a World Series victory. During this period the Dodgers have obtained two titles.
This just shows that the Dodgers have been able to manage their money more efficiently and their investments have provided them what they asked for. Now, we will have to wait and see if Hal Steinbrenner will actually do something to improve the Yankees or play the victim card to be on the safer side in case they don’t win the World Series.
