Some baseball traditions are sacred, never to be disrespected. Each comes with its ballpark and makes one enjoy it, be it a home team fan or not. So is the case with Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs, who are currently up against the Atlanta Braves. In the middle of a heated match-up, fans came together for a sacrosanct ritual.

Although the St. Louis Cardinals share a storied enmity with the Cubs, the Braves are also worthy division rivals. Fans share the sentiment equally, as brawls at stadiums are witnessed. But if there is one thing sacred in baseball, it’s tradition. Something that has always been done one way will continue, breathing new life into the game each time. One of them is the beer snake at Wrigley Field.

Chicago and alcohol have a long history at baseball parks, so of course one of the most well-known events at Wrigley Field would have to do with beer. Going back decades, the long-held tradition sees a huge set of empty beer cups joined together in a snake-like shape. Fans across the stands come together to add to it until it becomes as large as they can make it. The same happened at the recent Cubs vs. Braves game.

Interestingly, while this was going on off the field, tensions were high on the diamond.
