Years of seeing the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in October discontinued this year after their disappointing elimination. Still not hopeless, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles gave a strong contention. However, only one Eastern team stands. The 2-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins in the opening round of the American League wild-card removed the Toronto Blue Jays from contention.
