The New York Yankees fans witnessed something truly historical yesterday. Aaron Judge got ejected for the first time in his illustrious career. While that’ll surely be a great trivia question 20 years from now, the entire scenario might disappoint fans. The fact that Judge’s ejection left even the manager a “little surprised” shows just how unexpected and low-key the whole event ended up being.

During the game against the Detroit Tigers, the Yankees’ captain was having a good game. Being 2-for-4, Judge had already scored two runs and had an RBI double. However, the game will be remembered for Judge getting ejected for the first time in 870 career games! More importantly, he became the first Yankees captain since Don Mattingly was tossed out in 1994 during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

However, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone maintains that Judge wasn’t anywhere close to crossing a line. “Usually I try and take up those situations when I can,” Aaron Boone said in his postgame conference. Aaron – he’ll occasionally say his little piece but doesn’t ever get overly confrontational and I don’t think he did today either that’s why I was a little surprised.”

This is the second such ejection for the Yankees in the last two weeks. Just a few days ago, Aaron Boone was ejected by the home plate umpire, Hunter Wendelstedt. That time, the umpire thought that Boone was the one barking from the dugout when a fan complained about the strike zone. That was a controversial call that got most of the baseball world talking.

However, the real surprise isn’t that Judge got ejected; it’s that he got ejected for something quite routine for him. The captain noted the same in his post-game interview.

The quickness of Aaron Judge’s ejection leaves the player surprised

According to The Athletic, Aaron Judge has seen 586 incorrectly called strikes against him! Due to his height, All Rise usually falls to the pitches targeted at the lowest end of the strike zone, which usually goes below his knees. As a result of this, the superstar has shown his frustrations multiple times but hasn’t ever done something different from what he did this time.

“I was very surprised,” Judge said. “I’ve said a lot worse. I usually try to not make scene in situations like that, so I was a little surprised walking away that happened.” The captain looked visibly upset. However, the New York Yankees clubhouse looked far angrier. Most squad members said that Judge wasn’t “showing up” to the umpire and that the decision was taken far too quickly.

However, even then, Judge has finally broken that streak. But the way he did that might not have been electrifying. At least he wasn’t as animated as his skipper usually is.
