The bad blood in baseball is rearing its ugly head. MLB’s regular season is finally over, with exciting match-ups in store for the playoffs. Commentating on the postseason for FOX Sports are former New York Yankees legends Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. The frenemies have reunited, putting aside a bitter feud, but Carlos Correa may re-ignite it.
The retired Yankees teammates had a rollercoaster of a relationship in their active years, with fans following their every move. Although each has spoken about restoring their friendship, things are not the same as they once were. For Jeter, A-Rod was at fault in 2001 for his Esquire comments. In 2023, he may have once again made a mistake with the Minnesota Twins shortstop.

Captain Clutch is, simply put, a legend in pinstripes. Along with his 5x World Series titles, Derek Jeter is also a 5x Gold Glove winner. When Carlos Correa won his first career Gold Glove award in 2021, the former Yankees captain somehow came up in conversation. Surprisingly, the Twins shortstop had no good words to say about him.

According to MLB insider Hector Gomez’s translation, Correa boldly stated, “Derek Jeter did not deserve any of the Golden Gloves he won.” The ex-Yankees shortstop responded to those comments later, saying he was not too concerned. Incidentally, now that the Minnesota Twins are going up against the Houston Astros, which just so happens to be Correa’s former team, conversations are heating up.
Discussing the slugger with the FOX crew, Alex Rodriguez posted his comments to Instagram. “He’s everything, right? He’s a prime, prime-time player. He’s 6 foot four, 224 pounds, he’s built like a strong safety, he’s a gold glove winner, he hits home runs. But here’s the thing Kevin – he loves, loves the spotlight, and October’s where he shines.”
Apparently not realizing what his comments might be perceived as, yet again, A-Rod continued in front of Jeter. “He had an incredible series against the Blue Jays, tremendous play there. It’s going to be exciting, and the fact fellas, he’s going up against Houston? Is made for national TV.”

Correa Went From Idolizing Jeter to Criticizing Him
In a resurfaced video from 2014, the Twins shortstop sang a different tune. “I idolize Derek Jeter. I always follow him, I always look up to him, because he was a great player plus he was a great person. So, Derek Jeter is the person I always look up to,” were his words.

In a twist of fate, the Yankees were also considering signing Correa in his free agency, before he went to Minnesota. It would have been interesting to see the Bronx’s reaction to the slugger in Pinstripes. Especially after his comments slamming a Yankees legend.
