Shohei Ohtani‘s hitting arm is as powerful as ever. The Los Angeles Angels have been suffering a string of injuries, the latest one hitting them hard. Their two-way sensation‘s pitching ability has been limited due to a torn UCL that might even require surgery. Pitching is out of the question for Ohtani, but his hitting is just as good as ever, as a recent game proved.

Sho-time’s free agent pursuit is as hot as ever, and one of the teams that wants him in their colors is the one currently up against the Angels. The New York Mets, another team in the midst of a terrible season, have already lost two games to the Halos. And the second one showed them just what they’ll be getting if Steve Cohen manages to sign him.

Citi Field has been witness to some spectacular plays these past two nights vs. the Angels. And yesterday, right at his first plate appearance, Shohei Ohtani hit what looked to be a home run against Carlos Carrasco. But the ball actually turned foul down the right-field line. Not only that, but the 107.3 mph ball broke a lightbulb on the scoreboard!

Queens fans roared in delight at what they thought could be a home run, the sheer joy of getting to watch baseball’s greatest phenomenon live. But the shouts of disappointment were equally high when they realized it wouldn’t be a home run and the ball was foul.

They were somewhat vindicated, however, when Ohtani doubled to right-center in the same at-bat later. Given the amount of ridiculous plays Sho-time has, it’s a wonder fans don’t get to see such antics more often. Nevertheless, watching the light break was uncharacteristically funny anyway, so the home team decided to have some fun with it.

At Ohtani’s next plate appearance, the Mets sent the Japanese phenom a clear message. “We’re sending you the bill for that, Shohei,” read the scoreboard. Fans found the situation rip-roaringly hilarious because this comes from a team with the highest payroll in the league this year. Billionaire owner Steve Cohen’s pockets run deep, but not for this!

Maybe the Mets Can Cut Out the Costs From Ohtani’s First Paycheck

Shohei Ohtani’s free agency has been a heated topic of debate this season, and it will continue until the fall. If or when he signs a new team, it might cease discussions of his next destination. But Ohtani’s heroics will still be among baseball’s favorite topics. One of the teams in hot pursuit of him is of course the Steve Cohen-owned club. Most importantly, they might easily satisfy the $500 million asking price.

Maybe the billionaire owner can cut the cost of repairs at Citi Field from Ohtani’s first paycheck. But only if he manages to lure him to New York. Despite his injury, many teams are still interested in signing him, but only one will hit the jackpot. Now only time will tell which one manages to do it.
