There is no denying that within a year of his debut in the big league, Jeter became a fan favorite in the baseball community. He was a hero that not only the Pinstripes but also the game of baseball needed at the time. When talking about Jeter’s time in the city, apart from one thing, the Yankees legend lived a dream.

Former Yankees captain Derek Jeter had only one complaint while living in New York

Per an exclusive interview with Sports Illustrated in 1999, the then New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter, discussed various aspects of his personal and professional life. During the interview, Jeter also opened up about his time in New York City.

Even after playing for the most decorated franchise in Major League Baseball, Jeter had one complaint about the city.

In his own words, the NYC traffic caused him the most pain. However, the Yankees star also admitted that he was living a dream.

“If you’re looking for complaints, I don’t have any,” Derek Jeter said to Sports Illustrated in 1999. “O.K., the traffic here is a pain, but other than that, I’m living a dream. I think I’m the luckiest person in the world.”

Would the New York Yankees be the same had Jeter not played for them?

When Derek Jeter made his MLB debut for the Pinstripes in 1995, the Yankees were going through a 15-year title drought in the Bronx. The inclusion of Jeter in the Yankees clubhouse proved to be probably their most successful move.

During his 20-year career, Jeter led the Yanks to five World Series titles, including a hat-trick of championships between 1998 and 2000. Not that Jeter was the best hitter in the game, but his leadership was the one thing the Yankees needed the most.
