It’s been days that Bregman is a free agent and no news of him signing with any team as of now. Honestly, Bregman is one of the hottest free agents available currently and no signings for him is a bit surprising. Even so much hype was created about him staying with the Astros was also went in vain. So is Bregman in his thirties no more a logical fit for any team?

A big no! He is still a value addition for any team considering his playing position and big-ticket price tag. He ended in the 2024 season with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs and was recognized as the best defensive third batsman in the AL. This stat is enough to judge his caliber and how much he can contribute further. But why no teams have yet signed him up?

Well, Bregman was reported to have rejected a six-year worth $156 million offer from the Astros, which signals his top-tier expectations this time. Moreover, he is an established third baseman and the teams need to adjust their lineup in accommodating him. So, a cash-rich team with scope for playing as 3B is the place for Bregman. So, with Bregman seeming to be a logical value addition for any team, which team would be the most sensible fit for him?

Red Sox and Bregman: sensible partnership?

The Red Sox! Yes, with the additions of Devers, Chapman, Hendriks, and the internal supplies, they are just one slugger away from being a true contender. The middle-of-the-order slugger who will make more home runs and fewer strikeouts and that man is Alex Bregman. Also, the recent willingness of Bregman to play in 2B is something lucrative for the Red Sox. In an interview with NESN’s Tom Caron, the Red Sox skipper added, Rafael Devers is our third baseman. I always envisioned Alex as a gold glover 2nd baseman“. So, all okay then?

Well, getting Bregman to play in 2B is worthy of the Red Sox, and what can be a better combination of Devers and Bregman in 2B and 3B? However, the steep price with Bregman is the area where the Red Sox are still skeptical. Why? The $313 million deal with Devers is putting a financial strain on adding another big-ticket asset.

Going by these, the Red Sox will be able to field one of the best teams in 2025. Yes, he will come with a steep price, but he will also bring his World Series experiences and leadership to benefit the team further. So bring it on, Red Sox! It’s a risky move, but worth it.
