Derek Jeter is a household name in baseball. A 5-time World Series Champion and captain of the New York Yankees, his renown spreads far and wide. But while he may be one of the most respected figures in MLB, baseball is not the only sport he plays. After hanging up his uniform in 2014, Jeter took to new hobbies and interests, one of which was golf. And he has been playing the sport at his Turn 2 Foundation’s Celebrity Invitational for a few years now. One personality that joins him frequently is CC Sabathia, a former Yankees teammate who won the 2009 World Series Championship with him.

Sabathia followed Jeter into retirement in 2019 but the two have maintained their friendship off the field too. The former pitcher makes regular appearances at Jeter’s golf events and is quite passionate about the sport. Next, he’s headed to another popular celebrity tournament.

Soon after Derek Jeter’s tourney, CC Sabathia is set to appear at American Century Championship

For the unversed, the American Century Championship is a popular celebrity golf game that takes place on the shores of Lake Tahoe in Nevada. Usually held during the second week of July, the guest list includes famous names from the sports and entertainment world. Since June is almost half over, the official Instagram of the Championship recently announced their lineup for 2023.

And CC Sabathia is on it! Jeter’s invitational took place almost exactly a month ago, and now it’s time for Sabathia to gear up for the next game. While golf may seem like an easier sport than others to many, it is harder to actually swing the club correctly. Even Derek Jeter hasn’t mastered it yet.

Golf helped Sabathia become a healthier version of himself

For the longest time, CC Sabathia was an imposing figure on the mound, all 6-foot-6, 300-plus-pounds of him. Then in October 2015, the former Yankee announced he was entering into alcohol rehab. Was the situation really that bad? Sabathia thought so. He completed the recovery process and realized he had to now find other ways to occupy his time. Golf presented itself as a solution.

In February 2022, Sabathia did an interview with Golf Digest, where he told Alex Myers, “For sure, golf has helped me. Being able to detach from my phone, hang out with some buddies and enjoy being where my feet are. That’s one thing I always try to tell myself. Just be where your feet are.”

Now, he seems to be doing better than ever!
