Derek Jeter is widely considered to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His fantastic play and selfless attitude earned him critical acclaim as well as widespread fame. Furthermore, Jeter won five World Series titles while playing for the New York Yankees. That is what set him apart from other greats, his willingness to do anything to win.
Jeter was also an extremely loyal person and implemented that in his life to a great extent. This even applied to his agent, as he stuck with the same person for his whole career. But that wasn’t just loyalty, as Jeter’s agent once bested a musical icon and businessman worth $1.3 billion.

In 2014, Derek Jeter’s agent Casey Close was compared to Jay-Z, who had started representing athletes a year prior. The results were astonishing, to say the least, as Close completed deals worth over $700 million. Whereas Jay-Z completed only $240 million through Robinson Cano’s 10-year contract.
On Bloomberg’s ‘This Versus That,’ Betty Liu said, “Jay-Z made a splash by getting Seattle to pay former Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano $240 million over 10 years.” She also said, “Close had one of the best off-season’s ever for an agent. He negotiated more than $700 million in contracts for players including Clayton Kershaw and Masahiro Tanaka.”

The biggest deal was the 10-year $189 million deal Jeter signed in 2001. But this defeat to Jeter’s agent did not seem to affect Jay-Z, as he still stayed friends with the Yankee star.
