When Derek Jeter walked his last steps in the Bronx in 2014, he left behind a legacy to reminisce. However, it wasn’t the 3,000 hits, or five world championship rings that defined Derek Jeter’s career in the Bronx. It was the great and storied Yankee emotion that Jeter, as the New York Yankees captain, lived up to. His fearless attitude and perpetual competitiveness resonated with every Yankee fan in the Big Apple.

But Jeter’s love and loyalty for the Yankees wasn’t something that was born when the Yanks picked him in the 1992 MLB draft. It was born long before that. In the documentary, Captain Clutch’s childhood friend Doug Biro spoke about Jeter’s passion for the game, and how he always believed that Jeter would achieve greatness.

Biro said, “Even in early age, he always believed in himself. Always believed in his own abilities and it seemed like there was never a doubt that he’d be able to accomplish anything that he set out to do.”

In continuation to what Biro narrated, Derek’s mother, Dorothy Jeter, credited her mother (Derek’s grandmother) behind Jeter’s love for the Yankees. She said, “Derek’s a Yankee fan mainly due to my mom. She was a die-hard Yankees fan. He would watch TV with my mom, and it was always baseball, and the Yankees.”
