Two Yankee Monument Park members, one outfielder and one shortstop, Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter, were popularly famous for their esteemed MLB career in the Pinstripes. Together, the two Yankees were teammates for 12 years and won four World Championship Rings together.

Naturally, after being renowned stars for so long, they developed a camaraderie that didn’t limit itself to the ballpark. Analogous to that, Bernie Williams spoke about a particular and peculiar instance of this friendship when he poked his captain while they watched music videos together.

How did Bernie Williams poke captain Jeter?

In Derek Jeter’s biography, written by Ian O’Connor, Bernie Williams spoke about the time when he pushed the shortstop’s buttons while watching music videos together. In the middle of watching those videos, Williams would ask Jeter whether he knew that girl.

He asked, “Do you know that girl? I know you know that girl.” According to the book, Jeter would often reply with a confession that he did know the girl.

Notably, Bernie Williams retired in 2006, and his captain, Derek Jeter, retired in 2014.

New York Yankees: before and after Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter made his Yankee and MLB debut back in 1995. Since then, with Jeter, the Yankees won five World Championships, the most recent being in 2009. However, since Derek Jeter retired in 2014, the New York Yankees have looked like a completely different team, and not in a good way.
