Derek Jeter Trumps Alex Rodriguez in Popularity Contest Despite the Latter’s Statistical Advantage

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez’s baseball careers are forever intertwined. As young stars, they formed a close bond comparable to brotherhood. However, their relationship deteriorated, leading to a prolonged feud that persisted even during their tenure as teammates on the New York Yankees. In a recent popularity contest among current Bronx Bombers players, Jeter emerged as their top choice, beating Rodriguez.

Although the two legendary infielders are superstars, they had vastly different careers. Jeter was a serial winner, picking up World Series titles from early MLB days. On the other hand, A-Rod was more of an individual star and had incredible statistics. But despite this, the Yankees’ former captain beat him. 

Derek Jeter was the preferred pick for the Yankees, not Alex Rodriguez

For baseball players, naming their Mount Rushmore of icons is complex, with only four players cutting. When, lately, some Yankees stars were asked for their Mount Rushmore. Of the ten players that answered, 4 named Derek Jeter, whereas, in a shocking turn of events, none named Alex Rodriguez.

The four supporters of the former captain included Gerrit Cole, Anthony Volpe, Jose Trevino, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. YES Network shared a video of the players making their choices on Twitter. In a Tweet, they said, “Whether it’s 3, 4, or…8, the Yankees give us their Mount Rushmore of baseball players!” 

This video shows how much current players look up to Jeter more than they do Rodriguez. This is despite A-Rod leading his former teammate in several categories. For a quick comparison, the Yankees’ former third baseman has 696 home runs and 2086 RBIs compared to Jeter’s 260 home runs and 1311 RBIs.

A-Rod’s PED usage may also impact how players and fans view him. Despite improving his image in recent years, the stain of his scandal has not gone away. Furthermore, Rodriguez’s obsession with Jeter shaped his bachelor’s life. This video is not the first time Jeter has trumped A-Rod in popularity.

An MLB insider said Jeter crushed Rodriguez in popularity

In November last year, Ian O’Connor spoke about the difference in popularity between Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter in New York. While appearing on ‘The Colin Cowherd Podcast’, he said that the difference is night and day. He further said that most New Yorkers would agree with this statement and that the two legends are on different planets in terms of popularity. In his eyes, New York and the USA as a whole both consider Jeter levels above Rodriguez.
