With the writers’ strike ongoing, it seems that the conversation may be getting too complicated for many to follow. But when following the story gets too confusing, the easiest way to understand it for sports fans is an analogy. And what better analogy to give to an MLB fan than one featuring ‘Captain Clutch’ himself as a part of the explainer? Needless to say, the red carpet is making its rounds on MLB Twitter.
The SAG-AFTRA is currently striking against the Alliance for Motion Pictures and Television Producers over a myriad issues. However, while negotiations between the two parties have stalled the SAG -AFTRA has reportedly agreed to an interim agreement to allow some members of the striking contingent to feature as a part of the some approved projects that don’t have the backing of the AMPTP. While sounding fairly convoluted, Interstellar star, actress Jessica Chastain had an interesting take to make it all more digestible.

While on the red carpet, actress Jessica Chastain took to explaining the issue to everyone not following the strike too closely. Alluding to the projects bankrolled by the SAG-AFTRA, Chastain said, “You got the Major Leagues. You got Derek Jeter, all the guys, and they’re like, ‘We’re not happy with their contracts, we’re going to strike.’”

With the current state and negotiations still stalled, the current state stands at an interim agreement that the SAG-AFTRA has come upon to allow certian portions of their ranks to continue on select projects. Explaining it in baseball terms, Chastain added, “The Minor Leagues show up and say, ‘Hey, guess what? We’re going to give you the contract you want!’ So the players go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to work for the Major Leagues, we’re going to go work for the Minor Leagues.’”
Concluding that this was ultimately a move to empower one party, Chastain said, “Who do you think the audience goes to see? And now all of a sudden, the Major Leagues don’t have any power.”
