Derek Jeter is the New York Yankees legend who played in the MLB for 20 years. He got all the success during this period, including the 5x World Series championships. The MLB Hall of Fame retired in 2014 and continues to help and inspire through his charity works. A significant percentage of them include future athletes.

In the latest addition, Jeter, through his Turn 2 foundation, will help Kalamazoo Central High School to set up a new baseball field. It is the same school and field where Jeter started his baseball career. Moreover, the school renamed it after Derek Jeter in 2012, honoring their 1992 graduate for his accomplishments in the MLB.

Jeter was born in New Jersey and grew up in Kalamazoo. He had his humble beginnings of a great MLB career at the Kalamazoo Central High School. Now, Jeter will help his school to set up a new field. It comes in addition to the initial support provided by Jeter to the school all these years, including $10k in 2012 on the renaming event.

Andy Pepper shared the news on Twitter and wrote,

The @KCentral_Sports baseball team hosting @BaseballGL23
in the final game ever at #DerekJeter field. The BB and SB fields will be torn up this summer, reconfigured, and turfed by spring courtesy of the @JeterTurn2 and of course, @derekjeter who I am told played for the #Yankees.”

The entire project includes ripping up and re-configuring the baseball and softball fields. It also involves work in the stadium with new seating, dugouts, and artificial playing surface within the school premises. Originally slated to be started in 2019, it will now start after a delay of three years because of the pandemic.

Derek’s high school performances and the 1992 MLB draft!

Jeter was a big name before making it into the MLB. While playing for his school, he averaged 508 in his senior year and 0.557 during his junior. His performances made the MLB teams look for his signatures.

Houston Astros had the first claim over Jeter but did not pick him in the 1992 draft. Ultimately, the New York Yankees signed him. For them, he played in the minor leagues until his senior debut in 1995. After a season of struggle, Jeter became one of the crucial players on the team, eventually retiring as a Yankees Legend.
