MLB great Derek Jeter has spent most of his life playing baseball. He stayed in the big league for over two decades as a shortstop for the New York Yankees. During this time, he earned uncountable accolades to his name. Until 2014, he had only one role in his career as a ballplayer. But that changed when Captain Clutch hung up his cleats. It’s been over eight years since he bid farewell, but he still hasn’t held a baseball bat. Then in 2017, Jeter, with many investors, bought the MLB franchise Miami Marlins. He remained the CEO of the team till 2022.
Transitioning from the role of a ballplayer to a front-office executive was a challenging thing to do, even for the five-timed world series winner, Derek Jeter. Life on the other side of the diamond was something that Jeet had never given much thought to. But when he lived in that position, he saw everything from a different perspective.

MLB icon Derek Jeter recently got his second Hall of Fame induction at GQ Sports Style magazine. In the interview, he talked about multiple things, including transitioning from his role as a ballplayer to a front-office executive. After becoming CEO of the Marlins, the Hall of Famer realized the countless efforts it took from many people for a ballplayer to do his job with ease.
While talking to GQ correspondent Brett Martin, after realizing the efforts of countless people, Jeter spoke about the move he made to bridge this gap between the members of the front office and players in the ballpark.
He said, “I brought every single member of our organization in the front office down to the club house, by department, and I had them all introduce themselves to the players and what it is exactly they do, what department they work in, how long they’ve been with the organization.”

Employees of the front office had been there for over twenty years but had never stepped foot in the clubhouse. Therefore, all of them appreciated Jeter for doing what he did. The players also relished their CEO for making them realize that they were all part of one team.
Jeter came to the Marlins to bring a change. Even though he did not stay any longer than five years, he must have made them realize they were all there for a more significant cause.
