Derek Jeter once got asked by ESPN reporter Karl Ravech about his reactions on drafting day. Jeter described how a player would sit around and wait for a phone call, back in the day. He asked his friends and family not to call him up as he eagerly awaited his drafting call. He mentioned how he expected to get drafted first or fifth.?
But then he got a call from a newspaper and asked if he heard of the first five drafts. At that point, a nervous Jeter hung up the phone and went to the bathroom. The next phone call got picked up by Jeter’s mother, while Jeter stayed in the bathroom. With a surprised look, she informed Jeter about the Yankees being on the other end of the phone.?

Jeter told?Ravech, “I was in the bathroom, yes. I’m not going to tell you what I was doing, but?”?
