In all of twenty years of his career as a New York Yankees, Derek Jeter was on the receiving end of appreciation for his tremendous career. But the former Yankee once pissed off several MLB officials and executives at the same time.
In 2011, the former shortstop got selected as an all-star for the twelfth time. Reportedly, he was dating the Charlie’s Angels actress Minka Kelly at the time. And the Yankees legend, who was known for discipline toward the game, prioritized his love life over his MLB commitments.

Apparently, Jeter had decided to skip having an appearance in the All-Star game that year. And he chose to spend time with his then-girlfriend Kelly. Therefore, the executives got pissed.
What led to Derek Jeter missing the All-Star game in 2011?
In June 2011, while getting closer to having his 3000th hit, the former shortstop Derek Jeter suffered an injury on his right calf. That injury had kept the Captain away from the game for three weeks. Therefore, he skipped the All-Star game and get some rest. Notably, Jeter did it so that he could remain fit for the second half of the season.
And since he was not playing the game, the former Yankee chose to spend some quality time with his then-girlfriend. However, MLB officials believed that Jeter should have played the All-Star game.
“Derek Jeter has done everything right during his whole career,” the official told the Daily News. “He was wrong on this one.” Notably, when Jeter got snapped with Kelly in Miami, it became massive news in the MLB world.

Jeter was just six hits away from hitting his 3000th!
After getting his 2994th hit because of the injury in June, Jeter limped off the field and left the game. Jeter managed to hit his 3000th hit in MLB only after making a comeback from his injury. He also became the 1st Yankee to achieve the milestone.
