Derek Jeter played through a storybook career on the baseball diamond. He gave high-quality entertainment to baseball followers. His contributions enriched the sport with fairytale endings. Therefore, after stepping away from the ballpark forever, Jeter got the highest honors.

Jeter will always be memorable as the loyal New York Yankees shortstop. Having played only for the Yankees throughout his entire career, he endured 20 magnificent MLB seasons. His glorious record counts at 3465 hits, 260 home runs, 14-All Star appearances, and five World Series championships. Thus, fully deserving of an entry into Cooperstown. 

Post-retirement, Jeter’s heroics got the initial tribute from the Yankees organization. In 2017, Jeter thus joined an elite club of Yankees legends with retired jerseys. The grand honor followed in 2020 as he got elected for a Hall Of Fame induction. He qualified with a 99.75% first-ballot vote. Notably, Jeter is also a Monument Park honoree. 

Derek Jeter: Fighting through the emotions 

Derek Jeter has always been a quick learner, taking notes from the veterans of the sport. At his Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, he did something similar. On his felicitation day, Jeter shared the stage with fellow 2020 inductee legends Ted Simmons and Larry Walker. Jeter soaked in the intensity of the moment and maintained calmness as Simmons and Walker delivered their respective speeches. 

In an interview later, Jeter shared his secret to avoiding an emotional outburst amidst his speech, saying, “When you start listening to the speeches before you and you’re looking at their family members and they’re starting to show some tears, I tried not to establish long eye contact with my family when I was speaking because I didn’t want to lose it.”

Additionally, thanking his supporters, Jeter added, “Yankee fans, they watch every day. They live and die with how the Yankees perform on the field, so they’ve seen me grow up and I think I’ve been a part of their childhood up their adulthood. Yankee fans appreciate the history. That’s what makes the organization so special, so to have that number of people come out here, all things considered, I’m glad I had a chance to share that experience with the fans because they’re a big reason why I’m here.”  

The people that showed up for the ceremony 

Among attendance for the occasion were Jeter’s parents, grandmother, wife, and two of his daughters. Some star attractions included NBA legends Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing. Also present were Jeter’s former teammates Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Wade Boggs alongside former manager Joe Torre
