Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees were the perfect matches. Because Jeter and the Yankees helped each other grow. Having played for over two decades for the Pinstripes, Jeter is one of the very few MLB players who have the luxury of calling themselves a one-team man.

Even though it has been over eight years since Jeter retired from the game, he remains a fan favorite for the Yankees fans. However, there was a time when the Yankees were not his priority. Instead, he would wish a different MLB team to win over the Pinstripes.
When Derek Jeter wished the Miami Marlins to win over the New York Yankees
Dating back to 2018, Derek Jeter served as the Miami Marlins CEO. And that was the time when Jeter prioritized the Marlins ahead of the New York Yankees. When the CBS Sports interviewer asked whether the Yankees are still his favorite team, Jeter did not deny it. But he did say if the Marlins face them, he would not mind beating them.
“I am. Yeah, just not if we are not playing [against] them, right?” Derek Jeter said.
However, the Yankees legend also admitted that he owes his baseball career to the Pinstripes and the Steinbrenner family. And why not? The Yankees are the team where he became one of the best in the game.
“I mean, this is an organization where I owe everything to, and I have a great relationship with the Steinbrenner family. I will continue to do so. But it will be strange when we play the Yankees because there has not been a day in my life that I have rooted against them,” Jeter added.

Why did Jeter leave the Marlins?
Derek Jeter served as the Marlins CEO for over four years. He was also a minority owner of the MLB franchise. However, earlier this year, the Yankees legend resigned from his position as he believed he was not on the same page as the franchise.
