It has been years since Derek Jeter bid farewell to the game. But there will always be a debate among the MLB community whether he is over-rated. It is no secret that Jeter does not have the numbers like the MLB legends Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and a few more. Despite that, Jeter’s name is in the same category as them.

It is something that many baseball fans disagree upon. And since the release of Jeter’s docuseries, this has become a hot topic in baseball. With a career that spanned over 20 years, Jeter remained one of the most consistent performers for the New York Yankees.

Apart from being a skilled player, Derek Jeter was also a brilliant leader of the pack. When the Yankees were going through a rough patch, Jeter brought a new life to the Bronx. And when talking about numbers, the former Yankees captain has won five World Series in his illustrious baseball career. Now that his greatness has become a question for many people, ace sports analyst Colin Cowherd took the matter into his own hands and addressed the topic.

Colin Cowherd has his say on if Derek Jeter is over-rated

Derek Jeter has been nothing but a blessing for the game of baseball. He is probably one of the finest ambassadors of the game. The reason he is in the same company as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, and a few more is that he knew how to handle games in pressure situations. And that is what makes him one of the greatest ever in baseball.

Talking about the same, Cowherd came up with a reasonable point. He pointed out that everyone does not have to be over-rated or under-rated. The MLB pundit also reiterated that Jeter shone in a game that does not have glamour like the NBA or NFL.

“The other thing I am tired of is this; everybody in society is over-rated or under-rated. Derek Jeter is appropriately rated. And so is almost everybody else… He was the coolest baseball player in a sport that does not like glamour, does not elevate stars. There is a way to play games, there is unwritten rules. And Jeter was cool,” Cowherd said.

While addressing the topic, Cowherd also praised the atmosphere of the iconic Yankee Stadium.

“In that classic Yankee Stadium, in these massive moments, there is nothing like the old Yankee Stadium. And there is nothing like the Yankees brand,” added Cowherd.
