There is a huge rage right now about the Los Angeles Dodgers being bad for baseball. That they are the “evil empire” in the whole of the league. That they have taken the crown of evil empire off the New York Yankees head. It’s not because the LA Dodgers won the World Series. But rather it boils down to power. More precisely, purchasing power. Once New York held the crown of getting all the superstars in the free agency. All thanks to George Steinbrenner, who, if he wanted someone, made sure to get them.

Things under Hal Steinbrenner though are more calculated. However, what makes fans question the Yankees and their future to even win a ring is that they have lost a major bid. They wanted Juan Soto in their lineup; however, the New York Mets took the player right under their nose. The fact that a team known as the younger brother of the Yankees could do that had people rolling their eyes. However, Derek Jeter still has faith in his former team. Despite losing Juan Soto to the Mets, Jeter feels his former team has improved as a whole. He knows better than anyone what it really takes to be a champion—he is a 5x champion.

Derek Jeter is positive about the Yankees roster in 2025

The Yankees are coming in for their new season after their first World Series appearance in over a decade. Sure Soto took off to the Mets, but they have been quick to sign great players. From Max Fried to Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt to bolster their roster. Jeter told sportscasting in an exclusive interview about this new roster,   ”They did a good job. You always want to try to improve your team. I’m sure if you ask anyone in the organization, they will say they have improved as a whole. The great thing about playing for the Yankees is that pretty much every season you have an opportunity to get to the postseason.”

As far as the loss in the World Series to the Dodgers goes, Derek Jeter said, “Obviously, they fell a little bit short. But now they’re retooling and getting ready for this season.” The Bronx Bombers sure did deliver one of their best seasons since 2009. Aaron Judge was an absolute beast on the mound. The 6-foot-7 slugger shattered his own personal best in RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS.

Now the New York Yankees have one of the best left-handed pitchers, Max Fried, along with firepower from Bellinger and Goldschmidt, so they seem primed to be deadlier. Jeter said the squad most importantly now doesn’t have to rely on Judge to carry out the load. Overall, they do look strong, some even claiming losing Soto was a blessing in disguise for the team.

What’s your perspective on:

Have the Dodgers truly dethroned the Yankees as baseball's 'evil empire,' or is it just hype?

Jeter not buying the Dodgers’ super team debacle

Now several experts are hailing the Yankees for having the best offseason in a while now. But really, the road ahead won’t be easy. Their facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series last season is a quick highlight of it. Now the Dodgers have gotten even stronger with key additions. They already had Shohei Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Freeman, and now they even have Roki Sasaki. For New York, they are a huge threat.

However, even so, Jeter doesn’t think it’s much of an issue. In fact, he thinks that the Yankees are in a good spot. For him, baseball is a different type of game, with several variables. When asked about the Yankee’s chances in the World Series, he said, “I don’t know; I don’t pay much attention to projections. Every year you start off the season, and the team you have on the first day of spring training is not really the same team you have at the end of the year.”

Derek Jeter mentioned that injuries and unforeseen circumstances are the heart of it all. And where is the lie? Just last season, LA had players flying out like flies from the lineup to the injured list. So things change. Plus, news has already come that Roki Sasaki, their newest player, was asked by his doctor back in Japan to go through a Tommy John surgery. This will be alarming for the team! As far as who the next teams will be in the World Series, Jeter cautiously mentioned it’s too early to say now. Jeter mentioned, “My World Series pick—you gotta wait until the rosters are set.”
