Derek Jeter’s Ex-girlfriend Mariah Carey Once Revisited a Famous Comment That Started Her Beef With Jennifer Lopez

Derek Jeter often made the headlines for his relationships with numerous high-profile women. But none were talked about as much as his time dating pop icon Mariah Carey. The two dated for about a year between 1997 and 1998. They then parted in what was a highly publicized breakup and have moved on to have extremely successful careers, respectively. 

But there is one main difference between the two. Jeter has stayed out of controversy his whole career, whereas Carey has been followed by it for years. Jeter’s ex-girlfriend once opened up on a heavily publicized beef that she had with another pop superstar and said that it was all a misunderstanding.

Mariah Carey cleared up the air on her beef with Jennifer Lopez

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Carey cleared the air on her supposed beef with JLo. She commented on the statement that started the whole issue. Years prior, when asked about JLo, Carey said she didn’t know Lopez. This was what started the whole feud. But while talking to Andy Cohen, she cleared the air on that statement and said it was taken out of context.

Carey said, “I don’t know her! Like, what am I supposed to say? I’m not gonna put on a thing like oh we’re all Hollywood and let’s just pretend we’re best friends ’cause we’re like in that land. It’s no offense to anybody. Like, the question was about Beyonce and I was saying, she’s super talented, she’s a friend of mine, she’s always been sweet to me. She’s always been very cool.”

She further clarified, saying, “I was like I don’t know her. It wasn’t like I don’t know who she is. Of course, I do. That’s not the question.” The whole beef seemed to be taken out of context, but that did not make it any less real. The two have thrown jibes at each other over the years and the beef still hasn’t been settled. This is just one example of the controversy that follows Carey all over the place. This type of attention is one of the reasons Carey’s relationship with Derek Jeter didn’t work out.

Derek Jeter didn’t date famous people after the breakup with Mariah Carey

Following his breakup with Carey, Jeter has not dated any more famous people. But this is very much on purpose. Jeter specified the reason for this in an interview with Playboy Magazine.

In the interview, Jeter said, “It’s just tough when both people are in the public eye. I’m not saying it can’t work, but there are a lot of rumors, a lot of gossip, different schedules.” That is why he has not dated anyone as famous as Carey since then.
