In baseball, nothing is guaranteed. Great teams may lose while underwhelming players win. 2023 has been a season of surprises, culminating in a thrilling postseason. Commentating and making predictions, former New York Yankees teammates Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter are here with FOX Sports. But they may not have popular fan favor.

Since retiring from the sport in 2016, A-Rod has appeared as an MLB analyst for FOX as well as ESPN, keeping his love of baseball alive. While his guest appearances have had lukewarm responses, the gig has continued. Joining him behind the microphone this season is frenemy Derek Jeter, who was famously media-averse in his active years. Now, the duo is experiencing a reversal of fortunes.

Speaking in front of thousands, or even a single camera, is an art not everyone can master. Many would rather not see A-Rod as an anchor despite his years of experience. When FOX Sports announced Jeter’s joining, critics labeled him a novice too. After all, a famed reporter had once labeled the retired captain “a little b*tch” for his ability to essentially keep the conversation focused on his team.

Jeter appeared for MLB’s London Series in the summer, but not with the best audience reception. Once again playing the role of analyst, fans seem to have done a 180, lauding his performance. Rodriguez, on the other hand, is once again under attack. The two former teammates’ history is fraught as it is, although the two claim to be friends now. But fans have not forgotten Rodriguez’s friendship betrayal, nor his PED-tainted past.

The FOX MLB crew has been active on social media, but when Jeter posted pictures on Instagram, fans rejoiced to see him back in baseball. The Yankees of 2023 have been a catastrophe in play, but it’s nice to see someone in Pinstripes in the postseason. But one thing fans wouldn’t tolerate was Jeter’s former teammate.

Yankees Fans Will Tolerate David Ortiz But Not A-Rod

The New York Yankees and the BoSox’s famous rivalry has seen Jeter and Rodriguez on one side and Ortiz on the other. But everyone has put aside the enmity now, even fans. What many cannot still let go of, however, is A-Rod.
