Every baseball fan eyewitness to Doyle’s MLB career mostly remembers him as a Red Sox player. But he also once formed a significant part of the Phillies’ defense. Notably, Doyle was a much better fielder as compared to his batting. He made a fierce fielding pair with former Phillies shortstop, Larry Bowa.?

He made five All-Star appearances and had one World Series victory to credit throughout his MLB career. Doyle’s death hit Bowa hard on an emotional note.??
Bowa shared the tragic news of Doyle’s death on his Twitter account, quoting, “My heart is heavy today. We lost Denny Doyle, one of my favorite DP partners… My condolences to Martha and the entire Doyle family. RIP my friend.”?
My heart is heavy today. We lost Denny Doyle, one of my favorite DP partners. We were together in the minors and the big leagues. The impact he had on my career, and my life, can't be put into words. My condolences to Martha and the entire Doyle family. RIP my friend.

One fan replied to the news and called him his boyhood hero.
So sad. Denny was my boyhood hero. As a kid I went to see the Red Sox play in Minnesota just to see Denny make a diving play and throw a guy out at first. Sure enough he robbed a Twin of a sure hit with a diving play late in the game.

Larry, tough day. Sorry for your loss. I watched MLB Network’s greatest game ever on Saturday where Denny was one of the guests. He was an unsung contributor on the Red Sox in 1975.
