Dreams do come true in America. At least when they’re related to the country’s favorite pastime. Major League Baseball often looks outside of the US to scout talents and it never comes up empty-handed. The game that originated in Cooperstown some centuries ago has now spread across the globe. From Japan to the Dominican Republic, MLB boasts players from various nationalities. But it wasn’t until recently that a team recruited a player from the African country of Uganda to play in the minor leagues.
After Ben Serunkuma and Umar Male with the Los Angeles Dodgers and David Matoma with the Pittsburgh Pirates, there may be another talented player coming in. Dennis Kasumba left the world of social media abuzz with his unique workout methods because he couldn’t afford a gym. But just when it looked like things might be looking up, all hopes were dashed. And yet, there are those that are sending prayers his way.

ESPN reporter Ben Verlander, who first ‘discovered’ Kasumba and worked tirelessly to get him a chance to play in MLB, finally announced some good news a few weeks ago. It was like a dream come true, but then reality came crashing down. The US Embassy in Uganda brought everyone misery when they denied a visa to Kasumba not once, not twice, but three times. The reason? The young baseball fanatic is an orphan and may not have strong enough ties in Uganda to come back, according to the embassy.

However, when all hope seemed lost, a good samaritan stepped in. Kasumba’s lawyer, Joshua Williams, who began helping the young Ugandan with his US journey, posted that he had a plan. “If anyone has posted anything on social media about Dennis’ denial, please remove it immediately. Hope is not lost. We have a plan in place. Please pray for Dennis this weekend,” he tweeted.

A fan later shared the tweet on Instagram, a screenshot of which was later reshared by Kasumba, expressing his thanks to Williams.
