The Yankees’ great Derek Jeter needs no introduction. A five-time World Series winner, Baseball HOF, a World Series MVP, and whatnot, Jeter had a fairytale end to his decorated baseball career.

Having played for over two decades, Jeter is one of the very few players who have the luxury of calling themselves a one-team man. Notably, he spent over 21 years in New York while playing for the Pinstripes. New York is the city that gave him everything. He received unconditional love from the Yankees fans in New York.

But when things came down to his family, the former Yankees captain did not want to raise his kids in the very same city that made him Derek Jeter. And the Yankees legend had a perfect reason behind this decision.

Why did Derek Jeter want to raise his family in Miami but not in New York?

Dating back to 2019, when Derek Jeter was the CEO of the Miami Marlins, he used to live with his family in Miami. And since he already had his home in the beach city, Jeter did not want to move again to New York.

Apart from this, Jeter also believed Miami had a better environment and was not crowded like New York. So it was easy for him and his family to go outdoors without any boundation.

“Raising a family in Miami is definitely different than in New York. It’s nice because we’re now in our own home. And it makes it easy to move around, play in the yard, enjoy the outdoors, etc.”

“We’re enjoying life and raising our family here,” he said. “My oldest daughter is heading into school somewhat soon, so we’ve begun the process of looking at schools.”
