The 2023 MLB season has been ill-fated for the New York Yankees. Despite overcoming a bad start and making a valiant effort to stay in the postseason race, Aaron Judge’s injury has proved costly. But despite their misfortunes, fans don’t seem to have any sympathy for the team. Most recently, the Yankees topped an unwanted list, starting an intense debate. 

Injuries and a misfiring batting lineup have largely smothered the team’s postseason chances in recent weeks. Furthermore, it saw the team press a panic button but fail to impress. This has left fans frustrated and wanting better results from one of MLB’s biggest franchises. In turn, it may have caused the Bronx Bombers to rank top in this unpopular list.

Are the New York Yankees the most hated team?

Few teams beat the Yankees in terms of history and legacy. 27 World Series titles in their decades of existence have made them one of the most beloved teams. But in turn, opposing fans seemingly hate the Bombers the most. The Game Day MLB Twitter account shared a list of the most disliked teams verified by Codify in a poll. It was a somewhat controversial list with the Yankees topping it, followed by the Houston Astros and New York Mets in that order.

In a Tweet, The Game Day MLB said, “Y’all buying the Yankees being more disliked than the Astros?! 😳 (via @codifybaseball)”. Through their Tweet, even they seemed surprised by the list. But it seemingly confirms that the teams that win the most are hated by other fans.

The Yankees are a unique franchise in the sense that even their own fans hate them sometimes. This is due to poor results and questionable decision-making. Let’s have a look at what supporters have to say about the list and the Bombers being at the very top. 

Fans are in an intense debate over the list

There are no debates that are more intense than when the most hated teams are involved. This is the case with this list as well, with fans getting involved. Some agree that the Yankees are indeed the most hated MLB team. 

Other fans said that even Yankees fans hate their own team. 

But there were also supporters that said the Astros should top this list.
