The first night at Fenway Park for the New York Yankees this season didn’t quite go as expected. Playing against their archrivals, the Boston Red Sox, was guaranteed to be an entertaining game. The Bronx Bombers are sorely missing the presence of their captain, but there’s no set timeline for Aaron Judge‘s return yet. After an already devastating loss in the Subway Series, fans were expecting the Yankees to pick up the slack. However, it did not come to pass.

The team lost their last match-up to the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium as well, and the losing streak seems to be never-ending. While fans have been hoping that veteran players will do better since the team is currently lacking Judge’s offensive power, they have been disappointed. This last game exceeded all expectations and was not in a good way.

The embarrassing 15-5 loss to Boston came on the first day of the series and one can only wonder how the rest of the two games will go. Domingo German failed to record an out in the third inning and utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa took the mound in the eighth. In a shocking twist of events, many thought IKF pitched better than German in only his second appearance in the role this season. The Dominican player has been among one of the best in the last month or so, but this last game would make anyone think otherwise.

The Red Sox set a season-high record with 15 runs against the Yankees, and Bronx fans are embarrassed and enraged. Some thought to take a page out of Oakland fans’ book and start chants of “Sell the team” for Hal Steinbrenner.

One pointed out how Kiner-Falefa has been a surprise to watch this season.

Many were in denial that the game had happened at all and commented how they had stopped watching after certain innings.

A lot of outrage was also directed at Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman for what fans think has been poor decision-making. A sore point no one likes addressing is how the Yankees have not won a World Series championship since 2009.

The World Series Championship drought continues

2022 seemed like a good year for the Yankees, as fans hoped they would finally win their first ALCS in their last 5 appearances. It was their second bout against the Houston Astros, but unfortunately; they lost again.

Despite Aaron Judge’s heroics and breaking the single-season AL record for most home runs at 62, the Yankees’ performance left much to be desired. Now, as they maintain a third place in their division 39-31, fans can only wonder how 2023 will go.
