All eyes are on the ongoing NLCS and ALCS, and no one wishes to miss a chance to witness this spectacle, including a snake. One eager serpent found a perfect spot during the second game of the NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets, only to be removed later. Although it was one odd event, the reference to the Arizona Diamondbacks gave fans many reasons to chatter about it.
Notably, Arizona is known for its arid flora and fauna, holding relevance for the ecological and economic worlds. MLB is not immune to it – the Western diamondback rattlesnake finding its place in the name and logo of the Diamondbacks, often called the ‘Snakes’. Hence, this latest encounter further added to this, with voices relating the incident to the 2023 World Series finalists, equating it to their absence from this year’s playoffs. But is there more to it?

No doubt, it was a great season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They finished first in the NL East and made it to the postseason birth. However, there was a cause for worry, especially when they hosted the Diamondbacks. From thousands in stadiums to hundreds of thousands at their homes, everyone watched the Mets win. And when the snake video poured in, they had one thing in their minds, the Diamondbacks. Though, the teams haven’t really ever been big rivals – the recent success of Diamondbacks has given a much-needed intensity to their NL East rivals. Another user amplified this take while adding that it was the only way for the Diamondbacks to make it to the postseason after a poor end. They wrote, “D’backs found a way in!” The fans are having fun – DBacks are known as the Snakes, so it makes sense why everyone associates that animal with them.
Another reason for this growing hatred stems from the fact that the Diamondbacks have had Dodgers’ number recently. One history buff in the comments reminded how the D’backs have done in the past, sharing, “A reminder that the D’backs still own them.” This is in reference to the NLDS 2023 – the Dodgers were coming off a huge 100+ win season and were big favorites to advance. But somehow, the Arizona Diamondbacks not only beat the team but swept them. The Dbacks went on to win the pennant and that was not well received by the Dodgers fans.
Another commenter said it was not good for the Dodgers, claiming, “Nope. bad omen.” Baseball is a sport that has too many curses. From the curse of Bambino to the Chicago Cubs’ century-long curse, omens are given big importance here. While one can’t tell whether they’re true or not but in this instance, the arrival of the snake led to the Blue Crews loss. One fan recalled and equated it with D’Backs history and termed it as, “D’backs territory.”

So, why are the DBacks called Snakes? The answer is quite simple – it’s due to their marketing. The team’s logo consists of the diamondback rattlesnake, their entire marketing depends on this. Naturally, that caught on and became a nickname for the 1x World Series winners. From the looks, it certainly makes the case of Arizona making it difficult for Los Angeles and it will be interesting to see how they return from this loss or if the curse will stay.
