Bryce Harper is injured yet again. The Philadelphia Phillies faced a tough beginning to the season without their star slugger. While he quickly recovered from off-season Tommy John surgery on his arm, that same limb suffered another hit yesterday.

Harper is a beloved figure in Philly, not only because of where his talent has taken the team, but also because of his pride. His recent relocation news has upset some fans, but there is seemingly no cause for concern. However, what happened at a game vs. the Miami Marlins is worrying.

It was the third inning, with Harper facing Marlins’ lefty Braxton Garrett. The pitcher tossed a 90.2 mph fastball that hit the Phillies DH on his arm. It was the same arm that underwent Tommy John surgery last November. Because of this scary situation, Harper had to exit the game. Post which he underwent X-Rays to look for the need for fracture. The game ended with the Phillies breaking their 13-game winning streak, a franchise record.

But fortunately, Todd Zolecki reported that the X-Rays returned negative for any fracture, so he should be fine. “Just pretty sore,” he told MLB.com. “It definitely could have been worse.”

It’s still unclear whether the slugger will return on Sunday, and might need time to recuperate. If not Sunday, he will almost certainly make it back after the All-Star break, in which he won’t be participating after narrowly losing out to the LA Dodgers’ J. D. Martinez.

Harper had a strong comeback in 2023, especially since it was earlier than expected, but his performance has hit a slump lately. However, moving into the second half of the season, the slugger plans to play in a unique position that should be interesting to watch.

Philadelphia Phillies will employ Harper in a new position

Earlier this year, the club announced that Harper would move to first base for a while, a position he has only played for 0.1 innings. While this new move is expected to benefit the Phillies, fans hope that Harper will also find his power stroke back.

The DH has not hit a home run since May 25 in 160 consecutive plate appearances, which is concerning. But now that Harper may be on an unintentional break, his performance will improve upon his return.
