The New York Mets are on their way to welcome a new era. The team authorities have dived into a total restructure after a devastating 75-87 season this year. Their new President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, has predominantly taken the initiative. After taking responsibility for rebuilding, he is already making his existence felt by clearing out the previous roaster. Sources are now reporting that he has multiple targets in free agency because after what happened in 2023, they’ll need it.
With the biggest payroll, the Mets also turned out to be among the biggest flops of the season. Pushing through somehow, the team has not put on breaks and is eager for a better 2024.

The winter is the time to correct the mistakes that reared their ugly head in the season. While most teams are reflecting on their performance and how to improve, the Mets have chosen the quickest route. After multiple firings in the front office, new-hire Stearns seems to be determined to change things. A recent post revealed that he has ?cleared 16 players off the Mets? big league roster.?
Since taking over as president of baseball operations, David Stearns has already cleared 16 players off the Mets' big league roster. That is a pretty unprecedented — and telling — rate of turnover in six weeks.

Even Will Sammon from The Athletic reports something similar, ?On Friday night, the Mets trimmed their 40-man roster to 28 players after non-tendering a handful of players.? Of course, they haven?t said goodbye to all, but they did to their designated hitter, Daniel Vogelbach.
According to some, the DH of the team was responsible for several things that went wrong this year. He was witnessing a slump during May and June, but still, he received enough playing time for his team. Although he did find his form again, it was too late for it to matter.
His consistent poor performance in the beginning negatively affected fans, and though the issue eventually went beyond the failure of a single player, the team still bid him farewell. His baseball career is still on, but Vogelbach?s time in New York has ended.
With bidding goodbye to multiple players, Stearns also has plans to get an ex-New York Yankees player.

The Mets are reportedly interested in Luis Severino. According to a source, they even have plans to meet the pitcher. Per The Athletic, ?Severino, a two-time All-Star who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Yankees, profiles as a popular bounce-back candidate.?
In a catastrophic season in the Bronx, Severino finished with a 6.65 ERA and 6.14 FIP. But once upon a time, he was known for his fastball and in 2017 and 2018, even had back-to-back top-10 finishes for the Cy Young Award.

The Mets are in desperate need of talented starting pitchers to strengthen their lineup. Chasing Sevy may actually prove to be a good move, provided injuries don’t impede his performance.
