David Ortiz’s name consistently ranks among the top players when it comes to baseball icons in recent decades. Rarely anyone knows the team, or the ins and outs of baseball, better than Ortiz. Given the team’s recent struggles, it would be reasonable to assume that current players would eagerly seek to tap into his knowledge. However, he recently unveiled a surprising revelation.

The former first baseman played for six years with the Minnesota Twins but the rest of his 20-season career was spent in Boston. Needless to say, Ortiz is a living legend. However, Ortiz’s striking revelation highlights the current leadership issues plaguing the Red Sox.

It’s no secret that the Red Sox have been struggling in the last month. Ortiz has advice to give, if only the team would ask him. On Jared Carrabis’ podcast, Baseball is Dead, Ortiz told the host about the issues he thinks the current team is facing. “We are having leadership problems right now, the Red Sox…But this is a time that guys don?t want to sit down and have a conversation with me,” the Hall of Famer said. In fact, there is only one Red Sox player who has done that.

“Trevor Story was the only player that pulled me to the side being like, ?Papi, what do you think about this? What do you think about that??”, Ortiz continued. Having played for the Colorado Rockies before, – Trevor Story joined the Boston team in 2022. But the second baseman is missing part of this season since he’s on the injured list. Still, he made time and honor to ask Ortiz for tips.

The Hall of Famer is more or less synonymous with the Red Sox and believes the team is in his blood. He will gladly offer pearls of wisdom, “Whoever approaches me trying to learn, trying to figure it out, trying to pick up on my brain, you know I?m gonna take my time to help you and give you whatever information you need because that?s how I am,? Ortiz added.

Indeed, the retired athlete is ready to help out anyone, if only they’d ask! After all, he’s even helping players who are not from his former team.

Papi’s advice changed Marcell Ozuna’s performance

At the beginning of this season, Atlanta Braves fans were regretting having a player like Ozuna on the team. However, he made a lightning-fast recovery and is now one of the top offensive players in the league because of David Ortiz.

Although they have never played for any of the same teams, Ozuna considers Big Papi one of his idols. The Braves player recently opened up about how Ortiz helped him with some valuable hitting advice. The Hall of Famer offered to watch a video of Ozuna playing to best ascertain what could be done.

Now if only the Red Sox would do the same!
