It takes work to play a sport on camera. Not only is there an audience of thousands watching an athlete in a stadium, but there are also viewers at home. Not to mention, cameras record the game and all its bold moves and embarrassing moments for eternity. And it’s not just the players but the front office too. One such awkward incident occurred at a recent Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs game.

The club has emerged as an underdog favored to win it all with rookie Elly De La Cruz and his unmatched speed. But the Reds have struggled as of late, with their recent 5-3 loss to the Cubs being a case in point. However, the Cincinnati team’s loss didn’t attract fan attention. A heated exchange between an ump and the Reds’ manager also made the rounds on social media.

Managerial ejections are commonplace in MLB but rarely get as fiery as the one between Reds’ manager David Bell and home plate ump David Thomas. The team’s recent pitching has been underwhelming, so fans found it unsurprising when Luke Weaver allowed a few runs to the Cubs.

It was the third inning when Weaver gave up his third straight walk as the Cubs went ahead 4-1. When the umpire called it, David Bell was having none of it and walked up to Thomas, absolutely livid. He talked animatedly, making wild hand gestures. Noticeably, he took his hat on and off his head, apparently unable to decide what to do with it. He tried to walk around with the umpires as the crowd booed him.

Notably, even the Reds broadcaster agreed with the ump’s ruling. This is in an?era where umpire decisions?have been coming under more and more fire.?“Well, David is protecting his pitcher on the mound, but folks, those are balls.”?An undoubted ejection was in Bell’s future as fans had fun at his expense.

Cincinnati Reds Fans Mock the Manager’s Outburst

The Reds have shown signs of a winning team throughout this season. Although the latest flurry of games won’t prove it, many speculated that Bell could see he was in the wrong with his questioning. But he may have become theatrical with his actions for a different reason.

One fan speculated,?“I don’t think it’s so much about the calls. It’s about lighting a fire under your team’s ass.”

Others joined in with the same sentiment.?“I believe that’s more so to “protect” his pitcher and try to fire his team up after poor play last couple of days, not so much of he believes they were strikes.”

“David Bell knows those are balls; He’s tryna wake up his team. Letting his pitcher know to keep pitching, love it.”?

Some laughed off the incident.?“Bro can’t even take his hat off correctly.” “Bro was fighting so hard ??”

Bell later commented that whatever the last game’s outcome, his team was ready to fight again. So maybe fan conjecture was correct after all!
