The Los Angeles Dodgers are a team currently in turmoil. In spite of boasting a star-studded roster, their season is turning out frustrating and filled with inconsistencies. On one hand, many factors contribute to this slump. On the other, the spotlight is starting to shine brightly on manager Dave Roberts. But here’s the mantra that is often questioned: “just keep playing”.

After the latest 6-4 game in which the Dodgers fell to the New York Mets, Roberts offered familiar words. He said, “We’re in it, and you just got to keep going.”  This response, while appears positive, is starting to wear thin with fans. The Dodgers, a team built to win now, finds itself stuck in a slump and fans are really not happy.

Roberts’ mantra is to stay focused on the next pitch and keep playing. However, there’s been an argument that this may not really be the best approach. They direct at the Dodgers’ tendency to string together frustrating losses, often marked by defensive miscues and untimely pitching woes. In such a case, is simply ‘keeping going’ enough to address these issues?

In his post-game comments, Roberts did acknowledge the frustration. His words were, “I guess maybe more frustrating” as he described not being able to capitalize in the series against the Mets. It seems as if Roberts might have to change his responses and bring in a more assertive approach as a manager.

On one hand, panic is never an option and Roberts is managing well. However, some fans believe a drastic change, or potentially his firing might be necessary to jolt the Dodgers out of their present state.

Los Angeles Dodgers Fans Make Bold Demands

Social media started to flood with comments about this response from Roberts despite knowing that the team was not being its best. Comments demanding Roberts’ firing started to pile up.

One fan suggested changes in the lineup.

More fans came in suggesting changes in the roster, but this one was sarcastic.

Another fan pointed fingers at Roberts for not taking accountability.

Is there going to be a change in Dave Roberts’ managerial approach? Or will he continue to trust that simply “keeping going” will eventually lead the Dodgers to smoother waters? Only time can answer this question. But one thing is certain. The pressure is mounting from fans and the present mantra may not be enough to silence the growing discontent in Los Angeles.
