The world of sports is often as intriguing as it is accurate. While there may not be a connection for all to see, there is enough coincidence that makes everyone question what is happening. And in a twist of fate that will puzzle most fans, the 2022 Cy Young Finalist Curse is taking hold with an almost unnerving accuracy regarding injuries.

With the introduction of the pitch clock in 2022, most pitchers already had to adapt their game in a particular way. Most believe the game is skewed toward the hitters, and the injuries aren’t making it more accessible. Claiming the best in the game, the 2022 Cy Young Finalists are almost all on IL in 2023. While probably only a coincidence, the overlap between the injuries is undoubtedly not something that can be explained away like any other coincidence.

Miami Marlins Star Sandy Alcantara Joins IL in Shocking Injury

Most pitchers have a schedule that accounts enough time for recovery after a night out on the mound. Given enough time to recover too, as a professional athlete, their body tends to revert to normal and ability to play is not significantly affected. However, if one has been loading one’s body with pressure that is enough to put one into Cy Young contention, the effects are bound to show sooner or later. For Miami Marlins Star Sandy Alcantara, that point seems to have come.

Currently reigning as the National League Cy Young Award winner Alcantara leads the Marlins’ rotation for his third season running now. However, according to journalist Craig Mish, he will however will go on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm flexor strain.

It is expected while initially being conservative with the estimate of missed time, the injury will likely keep him out for the rest of the season.

Fans have speculated that being featured on the Cy Young list as finalists is what has caused the injuries. All 3 of the finalists have missed time this season and the theories have been bought alive. The truth however, could simply be that as a byproduct of their workload and pitching at the highest level consistently, their bodies have not shown the same durability.
