The Arizona Diamondbacks just can’t catch a break. Another key arm bites the dust, joining the ever-growing list of MLB pitchers heading for the operating table. Elbows are snapping, doctors are cashing in, and teams are scrambling for replacements. As if a rough 2024 wasn’t enough, the D-backs now face an even bigger void in their rotation for 2025.

What is happening to the pitchers in MLB? They are falling like twigs at this point. And now, it seems that Jordan Montgomery is sidelined. And if the reports by Jon Heyman are true, then the Arizona Diamondbacks might miss him for the whole season.

Heyman has posted on his X-handle that another important pitcher for the Diamondbacks is out. The post said, Jordan Montgomery is having Tommy John surgery @nickpiecoro and @Ken_Rosenthal on it.” It is also being said that Montgomery will be in the operating room next week to get this treated.

If it’s true, then this might be the last time we see him in the Arizona uniform.

Montgomery was supposed to be one of the most critical pitchers for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He signed a one-year, $25 million deal in 2024, but that season did not go well. He started 21 games and had a win-loss record of 8-7. Although he had an ERA of 6.23, his value cannot be denied. And now, with the buzz of him probably missing the entire 2025 season after the surgery next week, the Diamondbacks must patch up yet another hole in their rotation.

With Montgomery potentially out for all of 2025, the Diamondbacks’ rotation is looking more like a patchwork quilt than a pitching staff. Another costly deal, another season lost, and another front office scrambling for answers. At this rate, teams might as well start signing surgeons to contracts—probably the real MVPs!

Is Tommy John surgery the new norm for MLB pitchers, or is something else at play?

Diamondbacks bolster bullpen, sign Jalen Beeks after injuries in pitching department

The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing a dangerous game of plug-and-play with their pitching staff. Another injury, another desperate move to patch the leaks. This time, it’s Jalen Beeks stepping in to save the bullpen from total collapse. With key arms dropping like flies, the D-backs are banking on Beeks to keep things from spiraling further.

This signing makes sense, looking at the injuries the Diamondbacks have suffered in their pitching department. Their top pitchers like Jordan Montgomery, Blake Walston, and Josh Winder are probably out for the whole season, and they needed someone to take hold of the rotation. Jalen Beeks could be the man for the job.

Beeks’ 2024 season was a very average one for the Colorado Rockies. In the 71 games he played, he had a win-loss record of 7-4 with an ERA of 4.50. This might not look good, but it is the best bet for the Diamondbacks right now. And if you ask the fans, they might also accept this happily.

Desperation breeds opportunity, and for Jalen Beeks, this is his shot to prove he’s more than just a last-minute fix. The Diamondbacks aren’t chasing perfection—they’re chasing survival. If Beeks can keep things steady, he’ll be a bullpen savior. If not, well, Arizona might want to start scouting orthopedic surgeons instead of relievers.
