For the singer and the former Yankee to get into a legitimate relationship, Carey had to take a divorce from her then-husband. She wrote in her memoir how she speeded things up with her divorce. The “Roof” singer had hired a new lawyer and went to the Dominican Republic.
The moment she got her ‘freedom papers’, she hopped on a jet to Tampa, where Jeter was for spring training. “On that flight, I wasn’t afraid. I was incredibly vulnerable and raw. I’d closed and opened a door. My romantic life up until then had been so grim, why not believe in a fairy tale? I couldn’t wait to fall into his arms with divorce papers in hand.”
Although Carey was very close to having her fairy tale, her relationship with Jeter did not work out for a long time. But, over the years, the singer had spoken about her relationship with Jeter on multiple occasions.
