The New York Yankees are on to construct a championship-caliber team. After securing Juan Soto in a trade earlier this offseason, it seems evident that they are gearing up aggressively. While the Yoshinobu Yamamoto chapter did not have a happy ending, their pursuit continues to center around adding another top-tier starter. Who will complement the current AL Cy Young titleholder, Gerrit Cole? 

After an embarrassing season in 2023, the Yankees’ leadership has made it clear that they are in the process of bringing a winning team to the field. In pursuit of an ideal left-handed ace, one player has caught their eye. But will they go to the extent of making a trade with their rival?

Well, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer brought into perspective an interesting possibility. This trade package would allow New York to have their rival – Houston Astros’ ace Framber Valdez. After they went for Carlos Rodon last off-season without bearing fruit due to his injuries, his records stand at 14 starts and an ERA of 6.85. Could this proposed trade actually make sense? 

Were this to happen, the Yanks would have to bid farewell to their No. 3 prospect and outfielder Everson Pereira. This young player has played 27 big League games this year. Additionally, their No. 4 prospect, Chase Hampton, and No. 5 prospect, shortstop George Lombard Jr. would be on their way out. Isn’t that a hefty price to pay? Can the Bronx afford this, particularly after what they gave up for Soto?

It seemed that the offseason in Houston would be a quiet one. But their interest in moving their ace Valdez has raised eyebrows. While it’s uncanny that they would contemplate trading one of their best starters, their limited financial mobility and a bare farm system leaves them no option.
