The New York Yankees are having a hard time clinching star players from the ongoing free agency market in MLB. They just missed out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was considered to be the biggest prospect this year, after Shohei Ohtani. The rival Dodgers team secured both the aces. Now Blake Snell is one of the handfuls of elite pitchers left on the table to be picked up yet.

Snell is currently being pursued by two other lofty teams: the SF Giants and the LA Angels. Despite the rivals’ serious interest in the ace, he might just solve the Yankees’ pitching conundrum best. Even if injured veterans find their form, Gerrit Cole needs help. For next year, the Pinstripes will need to clinch another ace. Snell might be the answer, and justifiably so.

According to SNY, Blake Snell is the leading starter available in the current free agency market. The former Padres star won 14/9 this season, posting an ERA of 2.25, allowing hits that reached just 5.8 per nine. No wonder he won the NL Cy Young for a second time. Considering the state of their current pitching rotation, it is high time that the New York Yankees start thinking about an upgrade.

The Bronx’s starting pitching rotation has Gerrit Cole, the AL Cy Young winner who is all set to show off his pitching skills again in 2024. Other than him, there are only a few: Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes, and Clarke Schmidt. None of them are dependable because of their history of injuries and bad forms. Cue Blake Snell.

Should the Yankees seriously think of involving themselves in the race for the ace, they have to consider that the Giants and the Angels are also competing. Both teams seem pretty insistent after dealing with the hits of missing out on a couple of pitching phenoms themselves.

Teams in the current contention for Snell

Per industry reports, the Angels have fixed their eyes on clinching Snell following their missed chance of re-signing the AL MVP, Shohei Ohtani. They do not have enough prospects to go after any available trade options, making the free agency market their only choice. Rival Giants have somewhat of a similar story to make them go after Snell too.
