The Los Angeles Dodgers’ hyperactivity this offseason aims for a strong 2024. Linked to nearly every big player, the team is on a mission to build a World Series-winning team as soon as possible. Though the Blue Crew have strengthened their pitching with Tyler Glasnow, they’re also trying to add Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mix. But since he’s reportedly being favored by the Big Apple, Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes would be an excellent addition to the LA squad. However, it might not be as simple as it looks.

Even though Burnes is in the last year of his contract, it seems the Brewers aren’t ready to part ways with him just yet. The ace has been a lynchpin of the Brew Crew’s defense for a long time. The Brewers know this and want to extend the ace’s stay in 2024.

The Brewers are a small market team and rarely have the budget to make top-tier signings. Yet their impressive drafting system keeps them consistent. So when Corbin Burnes entered his final year it was obvious that his price tag would be too high for the Brew Crew. But The Athletic reported that the Brewers might want to postpone that trade until the deadline, even when the Dodgers are showing interest.

“The Brewers’ willingness to trade right-hander Corbin Burnes remains unclear. But the possibility exists that the team might carry Burnes into the season,” write Ken Rosenthal and Levi Weaver. Milwaukee wants to compete for the playoffs and Barnes is an obvious ace in the hole.

When the deadline arrives, the Brewers can extract more value for Burnes as the suitors will be much more desperate than right now. At present the market is not suitable for a trade owing to the high number of pitchers already populating it, especially since many seem to be waiting for Yamamoto’s decision.

This would come as a speed breaker for the fast and furious Blue Crew. They could crash and burn right as they reach the finish line.

The pitching woes of the Blue Crew

Even after getting Tyler Glasnow, the Dodgers are woefully short of quality starters. As a result, the team has gone all in on Yoshinobu Yamamoto but he’s seemingly slipping through their fingers. The New York franchises are gaining momentum especially due to Yamamoto allegedly wanting a larger share of the spotlight.

At the same time, pitchers like Blake Snell are being linked with the Los Angeles Angels. Now with the Brewers possibly delaying the Burnes trade, the Dodgers will have to pivot quickly. With a superstar-hitting lineup, a good pitching pairing is all they need to dominate the proceedings. The Dodgers must be hoping for a Christmas miracle.
