Corbin Carroll has done it! The 23-year-old Seattle native has impressed one and all and, as a result, has found himself being honored. Recently, news broke out that Carroll has been awarded the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year. And what made the treat even sweeter was the fact that it was his idol, Derek Jeter, who announced it.

In what was perhaps one of the greatest privileges of his brand-new career, Carroll was chosen for his impressive show on the field. Averaging .285 with 25 home runs in the regular season, he carried on his form into the postseason as well. The slugger’s heroics were the primary reason why the Arizona Diamondbacks defied all expectations to reach the World Series this time around. Is an award acknowledging his prowess any wonder?

As far as performances are concerned, Corbin Carroll has been up amongst the top. Only in his rookie season, he was a revelation with the bat. Upon receiving the honor he said (I’m) not the biggest guy out there in the field, but my ability to not be that guy and still be able to impact the game. That’s one piece of it.

In what could be termed a breakout season, Carroll became the first-ever Diamondbacks player to have been given the distinction. On top of that, he did so unanimously. With all 30 votes falling in his name for the first position he left behind fellow rookies like Kodai Senga, James Outman, Nolan Jones, and Mat McLain by miles. While it is only a testament to his ability as a future superstar of the game, he has proven this team’s choice right.

Full circle moment for the young star with baseball idol

Just earlier this year, the Snakes signed an 8-year $111 million extension with Carroll in a show of faith and the rookie has stood up. While he couldn’t take his team across the line in the World Series, he did get an opportunity to meet his childhood idol. In the aftermath of the loss, a sad but smiling Carroll was asked by Yankees legend Derek Jeter about his experience during the last dance. “It’s a special thing,” Carroll said while absorbing the magnanimity of the situation.
