In 2019, Corbin Burnes was experiencing probably his worst baseball form. The Brewers star was sent to the Minor Leagues to work on his game. It was at this point that he met Brian Cain, a mental performance coach who gave him one simple task. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Cain asked Burnes to make his bed every morning. This would help him start the day with a win and build from there.

According to Passan, “Cain started with a simple assignment for Burnes: When you wake up, make your bed. Start the day with an easy win. It was meant to help Burnes get into a routine. Emphasize self-discipline. Pay attention to detail. All the things necessary to succeed on the mound could be replicated off it, so that when it was time to perform there, it’s ingrained.”
