Like most kids, Barry Bonds was always close to his mom, Patricia Bonds. A career in the spotlight demands a support system, and the Bonds family knew it well. After all, Barry Bonds’ dad was also an MLB player. But instead of connecting with Bobby Bonds about their shared love for baseball, the former Giants player was closer to his mother. And sometimes, that bond made for embarrassing stories.

Bonds has been open about his struggles with having Bobby Bonds as a father. Conversely, his mom was always his biggest supporter, which was confirmed as far back as when he was a kid. And a few years ago, the MLB great recounted a humorous incident from his childhood involving his mom.

Everyone goes through that age when being seen with their parents is embarrassing. Little kids don’t care much, nor do adults. But there’s a particular phase in teenagehood when the hormones churning in one’s body make it supremely awkward to be in the presence of one’s parents. Barry Bonds was no stranger to this feeling. In an interview with Renel Brooks-Moon, the San Francisco Giants icon recounted one such incident.

To add hilarity to the situation, Patricia Bonds didn’t try to dress up for the errand. “Sometimes you just know your mom ain’t gonna get dressed and drop you off at school and stuff like that,” Bonds said.
