The free agency market in MLB is bumbling with anticipation as big names continue to be picked off the table, one after another. Star slugger Juan Soto was just traded in by the Yankees. Following that, superstar players like Shohei Ohtani and promising rookies like Lee Jung-Hoo have found the teams of their choice as well. One of the biggest names that is still available as a free agent is Cody Bellinger. Is a Chi-Town future in the cards?
Cody Bellinger has been predicted to reunite with his former team, the Chicago Cubs, by many. However, considering his hefty nine-figure asking price, some said it might be a no-go for them. Considering the recent change in events, it looks like the reunion is slowly becoming a sure thing. But how, exactly, might the prodigal son return home?

The Cubs recently hired Craig Counsell in the biggest managerial deal ever seen in baseball’s history. They are in dire need of securing some dynamic star power in their dugout to amplify Counsell’s exceptional managerial abilities. And Bellinger can be the perfect answer to their puzzle.

The slugger had an exceptional comeback season with the Cubs this year. Previously, Bellinger was battered down by backlashes when his form saw a decline in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. He chose to go for the Baby Bears to make a return rally—and, oh, what a comeback it was! The slugger scored 26 home runs across 130 games with 97 RBIs. He also scored an OPS+ of 133 with a .307 BA.
Apart from his exceptional seasonal records, Bellinger also formed a beautiful relationship with his teammates and executives at the club. The president of baseball operations, Jed Hoyer, has something to say about it.

“A really good fit” – says Cubs’ president
Bellinger may not have been a fit in LA but Chicago was where he found his groove. “We’ve loved having him here and…I don’t comment on negotiations in-season, but I’d just say that: He knows how we feel about him,” Jed Hoyer told Cubs Insider. He went on to reveal, “He’s been wonderful and I think it’s been a really good fit.”

The future is uncertain, but a reunion seems not only favorable but likely. Should the Cubs be able to come to a long-term agreement with Bellinger, the slugger will massively upgrade the dynamic of their current lineup.
