When free agency began, Cody Bellinger was one of the most sought after names. But despite early links and several strong links this off-season, he remains available. Although several factors play into him not signing yet, Bellinger and his agent Scott Boras appear to be in a deadlock with teams at the moment.

This was probably not what Boras had planned, especially after his client had an extremely successful season. 2023 was a massive comeback year for Cody Bellinger, perfectly setting up his free agency. But now, despite months of discussions, a resolution does not appear in sight. 

Cody Bellinger is not close to signing with a team

Despite strong links throughout the off-season, Cody Bellinger is still a free agent. Most recently, updates have surfaced that the star outfielder is not close to choosing a team. MLB on FOX reported this update via X (formerly known as Twitter) and also shared that the Cubs remain the favorites to sign Bellinger. 

In a post, they said, “The Cubs are the most likely landing spot for Cody Bellinger, via multiple sources. There is “no indication that Bellinger is close to choosing a team,” per @jonmorosi”. This gives a clear picture of the situation as Spring Training draws ever closer. Scott Boras seems to be awaiting the best deal, but it may not be coming. This free agency market has been sparse and teams seem unwilling to spend big. 

There have been plenty of questions surrounding Cody Bellinger and his super agent Scott Boras’ free agency approach. Despite not having a deal yet, the star outfielder does not seem to be showing urgency as Spring Training draws near. Now, another question pops into the mind as preseason approaches. ‘

Will Bellinger begin Spring Training without a team? 

Spring Training is a couple of weeks away and is a major landmark in preseason. As the days pass, a massive doubt forms. Will Cody Bellinger begin free agency without a team? Although this was simply speculation in December and early January, now it might come to pass. The star outfielder has faced multiple obstacles in his free agency as teams pulled out of the sweepstakes and talks stalled.
