Classless or competitive? What's your take on the Blue Jays' actions against Aaron Boone?

The rivalry between the New York Yankees and Blue Jays may not be as loud and storied as the feud Yankees have with the Boston Red Sox, but over the last 2-3 years, things have definitely brewed between the teams. Also, the fact that the Yankees are top in ranking and well Blue Jays are struggling and last in the AL East division doesn’t help the situation. Hence, this might have been the cause of the recent boilover between the two teams.

During the Blue Jays vs Yankees game, the former had a strategy in place and, however smart it seemed at first, things didn’t go as planned and hence frustrations and tensions ran high. And in what seemed like a moment of spite, the Blue Jays pitcher did something uncalled for, like throwing the ball at the Yankee’s manager! Except he didn’t think that he would get repercussions right back. Let’s just say things turned ugly and the back and forth with the baseball between the team was caught live on camera and fans don’t seem to appreciate it!

Heated moment between Aaron Boone and Genesis Cabrera

Every team is vying for supremacy at this point in the season, so things don’t take long to boil over. This is what happened at the game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays had tried to play it safe and their strategy was to walk Aaron Judge three times. However, things didn’t quite work out their way and their strategy fell flat. DJ LeMahieu was the game-changer for the Yankees! His walk-off single in the 10th inning secured a dramatic 4-3 win on Sunday.

While Judge was walking in key situations, LeMahieu ensured that the Yankees always had the advantage, as such the frustrations were running high. During the heated game, the Blue Jays pitcher Genesis Cabrera, who was frustrated with the game’s progression, threw the ball toward the Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone while he was in the dugout. Intentional or by chance, we don’t know! Boone, who seemed more than angered with the situation, didn’t back down and reacted by firing the ball right back at the Blue Jays. The umpire had to come in between and calm Boone down on this matter.

The entire exchange was caught live in action and the commentator tried to make light of the matter and diffuse the scene. He said that the Blue Jays didn’t seem to like the ball, so he fired it. But the MLB fans are not making light of the matter and the reactions are kind of mixed for what ensued between Aaron Boone and Genesis Cabrera.

What’s your perspective on:

Classless or competitive? What's your take on the Blue Jays' actions against Aaron Boone?

Have an interesting take?

Was it intentional or just a misfire?

The Yankees have been doing great, not just in ranking but also in the public light. Just a few days back, Soto was revered by fans when he helped a Make-a-Wish kid meet all the baseball players and got them to sign his ball. It’s the kind of feel-good story that has fans loving the Yankees even more. Meanwhile, things aren’t looking so great on the Blue Jay’s end. After the recent incident with their pitcher, the team’s getting some backlash. One fan even called them “Classless Blue Jays,” which is a far cry from the positive vibes the Yankees are enjoying.

And many such reactions poured into the socials after the video was posted and re-posted on and on. Some even tried to downplay the situation and suggested that it was not as big of a deal as it was shown. One fan said,I uh, don’t think there was intent behind that throw lol.” The angle of the video doesn’t do much justice and one cannot easily tell whether it was a throw made with spite as intent or just a random throw that landed on the Yankees’ manager’s end.

The commentator talking was actually confused with the entire ordeal, or so it seems. At first, he said that it looked like the Blue Jays player didn’t like the ball, and threw it away, making light of the situation and then the very next moment said, he fired it. Highlighting that, one fan said, “Fired it??? Announcers made it seem like he intentionally threw it at Boone when all he did was toss it and it rolled to Boone… Exaggerate much?”

Aaron Boone not taking it back and just throwing that ball might have been dangerous, but some appreciated the move. Moreover, this isn’t the first time that Boone has been feisty he was ejected from games because of his aggressiveness, and it’s not new. One user said, “That’s my manager.” However, such a post-reaction is also not expected, and it seems like it could have been nasty and taken a dire turn.

Echoing that, another user said, “Probably wasn’t that close but from that angle it looked like Boone almost hit the Yankees ball boy in the fucking head.” Now aggressive personality of Aaron Boone or not, no one should be allowed to risk someone with such demeanor, and granted it was not him starting the ordeal, it could have stopped, he could have been the bigger man.

Blue Jays, given the tough spot ranking of being last in the AL East division, had a plan of action. However, not all plans fall through, isn’t it? Or else everyone would be taking the trophy home! Hence, such a reaction seemed unwarranted, and unnecessary, especially when they were already in a tight spot. What do you think about the action—was it intentionally thrown to Aaron Boone, or did it just happen and the ball rolled? Let us know in the comments.
