Denzel Washington for Jackie Robinson, one legend paid tribute to another

Washington is known as the person who reconfigured ‘the concept of classic movie stardom.’ Words said by Denzel for the legend Robinson was moving enough to bring tears to anyone listening, and that is what happened at the Dodger Stadium ahead of the All-Star Game.

Washington started his speech by remembering the time when Jackie first appeared on the field in 1947 wearing a Dodgers uniform in Evans field, Brooklyn.

Followed by this, he said, “He changed the game of baseball, and so much more. What he carried with him, what he represented, was towering on the field. Furthermore, he said, “A world series champion, and a seven-time all-star. Beyond the field, Jackie Robinson challenged us to become better versions of ourselves.”

Robinson was a business leader, family man, activist, and also a Hall of Famer. Jackie always said and lived by the motto, “Life is not a spectator sport,” to the fullest.

Denzel visited the Dodgers clubhouse on Jackie Robinson’s Day i.e. on April 15th. There he recalled being a fan of The Yankees. Also, the player he looked up to was Elston Howard. Denzel looked at Howard because he looked just like him and that he could do what Elton did.

He then related it to the team and said that the opportunity that those players have to influence the younger generation is so much more than they can think of. Kids relate to the players in so many things. Just like the way Washington related to Elton and thought maybe he could become a catcher like him.
