Not everyone is against the Oakland Athletics’ Las Vegas move. The All-Star break has just concluded, and teams are looking forward to a better second half of the MLB season. While lagging franchises hope to climb the division ranks, the A’s face entirely distinct problems.

Fans have tried everything to protest the club’s move from Oakland. Nothing has worked, from refusing to attend games at the Coliseum, chants of?“Sell the team,”?and even a ‘reverse boycott’ movement. Even some?MLB players have joined the opposition, but one former Yankee stands in support of John Fisher.

Growing up in Vallejo, California, Sabathia has long been a fan of regional sports teams. A self-proclaimed die-hard fan of the Raiders, he was happy to see them move from Oakland to Vegas in 2020. And much like back then, Sabathia, who played with?Derek Jeter?in New York, supports the new ballpark.

A few weeks ago, the retired pitcher opened up about his true feelings regarding the Oakland Coliseum, even calling it ‘trash.’ Then, in a recent interview with?Fox News Media?at The Players’ Party in Seattle, he said,?“I think it’s tough.” He admitted that he might feel differently if he was a resident of Oakland, but as of now, the ex-Yankee looks forward to the move.

“I?m excited for the A?s potentially going to Vegas and what it could mean for the franchise. Growing up a Cali kid, like I said, it?s tough. But I got used to the Raiders in Vegas, so hopefully we?ll see with the A?s,” he said while sporting A’s regalia.

Protests are at full volume, but A’s performance isn’t

Although the 2023 All-Star game saw open protests from Oakland fans, many are wondering if going so far is worth it. This year, the move isn’t the Athletics’ only problem.

In addition to being the lowest-paid MLB team at $60.8 million, the A’s hold the worst league record at 25-67. The last few seasons have only seen them plummet downward instead of pulling up, but Fisher seemingly hopes a new ballpark will make things better. Fans, however, are downright skeptical.
