The New York Yankees red-hot start to the season kind of hit a roadblock on Wednesday night. But for a moment, the bigger issue was not the loss— it was Carlos Rodon. The lefty had taken the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks. And he was looking to keep the ball rolling for New York. But in the fifth inning, disaster struck…nearly.
Arizona Diamondbacks, Ketel Marte sent a drive straight back at Rodon. It was a 115 mph rocket, and it hit him on the forearm. The stadium went silent as if every Yankee was holding their breath. But Rodon somehow recovered to make the play. Trainers rushed in, and everyone was waiting for the worst news. But after a quick check, Rodon was back.
But instead of heading right in, Rodon disappeared for a moment. Well, he returned, and then he was wearing something unusual—long sleeves! His wife noticed it immediately and couldn’t help but talk about it on X.

Asley wrote on X, “For the first time ever. he’s pitching in sleeves.” Ashley, who has seen Rondon take the mound countless other times, never saw this kind of switch. Was it a precaution after a hit? Maybe it was a compression maneuver. But whatever the reason, this change did become a talking point. Despite the scare, Carlos Rodon really did power through the six innings. He gave up four runs on three hits and struck out five. The Yankees, though, couldn’t solve Zac Gallen, and so they lost the game. This is the second back to back loss for the Yankees- and it’s not looking good.

People have been claiming how Aaron Judge had the best chance to win World Series last season. Given that Juan Soto was there. And this loss, just affirms these thoughts. But Yankees did win in a way. The team didn’t waste time and got an X-rays done on Rodon. And luckily came clean. And this is great news for the New York Yankees. Because with Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil sidelined, plus Clark Schmidt still working his way—they couldn’t afford another disaster. Rodon did walk back bruised, but he was at least intact. Now, while the Yankees were able to dodge one injury scare, they couldn’t escape the on-field struggles that followed.

New York Yankees sruggle facing wrath of Zac Gallen
The New York Yankees really started the year with a bang. It looked as if they were here to avenge all that went wrong in the World Series. Also prove that they are as good a team without Juan Soto. But that dream lasted until they faced Zac Gallen. Who clearly ate the Yankees up!

The Diamondbacks ace simply shut down the Yankees offense with 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out 13 batters without a single walk. Talk about dominance, or you can simply call the gameplay historic. According to Katie Sharp of Stathead, no pitcher in the history of MLB has ever recorded 13+ strikeouts, 0 walks, and a walk before the New York Yankees. But well, Gallen simply outperformed everyone.
The most alarming thing for the Bronx was looking at how the bats looked helpless against Gallen. Their over-the-top hyped offense couldn’t even put up a fight. They managed just three hits before Gallen left. In the ninth inning, the Yankees did come alive, though, giving fans hope. But then, it was a little too late. And for the most part, it was just Rondon who actually performed the best. Even after the scare in the fifth inning.
